The International Gujarati Charities is a non-profit organization founded in 1996, by hospitality professionals who wanted to make a meaningful contribution to their community. The group consists of twenty-one volunteers who donate their time and effort towards various causes without any personal gains. These individuals work within their communities in India and also here in the United States. We believe that we can make a difference by actively supporting causes that promote education and improve the standard of living amongst under privileged families. In India we give support to a leprosy hospital, a school for the blind, and an orphanage. Here in the United States, we donate to fourteen charities ranging from the American Red Cross to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children. Our biggest fundraiser is the annual golf tournament held in Southern California. The tournament is gaining in popularity and is very well received among members of the business community. The last tournament held at Black Gold Golf Course consisted of over two hundred participants. The money raised from the tournament was donated to Three main charities: SAHARA, Long Beach Memorial Hospital Cancer unit for children, and St. Francis Medical Center. The organization also sponsors weekend classes to young children of Gujarati descent who wish to learn to read and write Gujarati. We also sponsor family functions such as summer picnics to bring together the younger and older members of the Gujarati community in Southern California.
